A Quilt for Mom

Another in the long line of things we've done and haven't blogged. I used my Go cutter to make 4 inch squares from my scrap stash. I am not sure why but when ever I go scrappy, I also autopilot into ROYGBIV. Maybe this shows a lack of imagination or maybe I just love rainbows. Either way, I am happy with the results. 

Rounded corners give the quilt a softer look.

I love that I had enough fabrics that each square is different.

Simple straight-line quilting on the diagonal.

The backing is a wool blend I have had for forever. It started out grey and I dyed it this pretty purple. I used it to make this jacket several years ago.

Blogger's Quilt Festival 2013

My apologies to those of you who are tired of this quilt..... When Jess and I finished it, I had no idea that the Blogger's Quilt Festival  by Amy's Creative Side was just around the corner. It is so fun to see all of the amazing quilts people make! I've always wanted to participate, yet always manage to forget. This quilt is the one that made me go ahead and jump in. 

  For the long version, you can read more here.  The short version is, this was made in four very long days of sewing, for a special couple who are going through a tough time. We needed to send them a hug.

My daughter and I started piecing with no set plan other than ROYGBIV and the lyrics we would applique.

It measures 60 x 60 and is perfect for two to snuggle in. We backed it in a lovely herringbone flannel  from Joann, binding and applique are black Kona cotton, pieced and quilted with Aurifil thread, and we used Nature's Touch by Pellon for the batting. 

We love this quilt so much and are so glad to have been able to make it and send it to such a sweet couple.

Dear Jess, Sorry I Forgot About Our Blog

Okay, I didn't just forget about our blog, I pretty much forgot about everyone's blog. I am sure no one was holding their breath for me to come back, but in the off chance you were, oops, sorry, I'm back. For the most part. While I've been MIA I have been doing things, not doing things, not noticing when things are done and working. The other day Jess and I decided to put aside everything we should be doing and play. I ended up making a quilt. She made two. She'll show her's to you later.

I've wanted to try and make a large log cabin block for a long time. After starting an all blue block, I had an ah-hah moment and decided on some Roy G Biv. This is one more project that is completely from things I had already in my stash. If I add up all the things that I've done and haven't shown you, I think I've gone through about 15 yards of fabric in the last month. It could be a bit more. I don't know whether to be proud or freaked out since my cupboard is not bare.

Anyway, enough, if I wear myself out with this one post I may never come back. Then Jess will probably stop making me cool labels that I don't notice and I really couldn't bear that. On to the pictures.

 Backed with Kona in yellow and bound with Kona in coal.

 Quilted in a square spiral starting from the middle and going down the middle of each "log".

I've put this one up for sale in the shop because, well, I guess you can have too many quilts. If it doesn't sell though, I won't be crushed because in my heart I believe, you really can't ever have too many quilts.
