Birdie Mobile

I am so excited to show you Isabella's mobile! I had planned regardless of the sex that the next baby's mobile would be birds. I started this two days before we found out for sure it would be a girl and was happy to get to come home and make crab apple blossoms for my tree branch!
I seriously love felt - it's so much fun to work with because you can make anything out of it!
A barred owl. I really think owls are some of the prettiest birds... of course they can also be pretty scary so I decided he should be sitting instead of flying!
Hummingbirds are Uber's Mom's favorite bird so I knew one had to be included.
A blue bird - my grandmother is always taking pictures of these in her backyard... among other things but these are the cutest!
Cardinals are my Mum's favorite bird.
This is the only one that I didn't choose for a specific reason I just wanted another color of bird and a yellow warbler was the first yellow bird that popped up on my google search...
I went back and forth on how to do the branch in the end I used my only crochet skills to make a branch out of roving yarn and then felted it. I am really happy with it and so happy that the felting process made my ridiculously imperfect job almost invisible or possibly intentional!
Micah is absolutely infatuated with it. He wants so badly to play with it and will go into the guestroom where it's hanging and point and babble about it. I am pretty sure he is plotting ways to get to it... since I've caught him on his way into the room with things like a hanger! Hopefully the baby will enjoy it half as much!

And a big fat P.S. I finally got my act together and started selling on Spoonflower -- I still haven't finished the Color Book (soon hopefully) but my Zoo fabric and Number Book are up. Thanks!

Garden Tuesday

A couple of Saturdays ago while having dinner with my guy and his parents, I looked out the window and saw this. He/she? was on the fence out by my garden. I say this to excuse the not so hot photos..... window, rain, distance, moo.
I was trying not to squee (I am a bird nerd, I love them.... ) because when I looked again, I saw there were two.
I have no idea of the exact type that they are. Hawks of some sort, I'm not knowledgeable, I just like them.
They are rather intimidating and I realized they were trying to intimidate the squirrels in our yard.
They were either practicing their hunting skills or trying to have one for dinner, though I never saw them get close. There are three squirrels that hang out in our yard and they're pretty fast.
Now that I think about it, lately I've only seen two.
Hmmm.....

Garden Tuesday is over at Sidewalk Shoes.
Go check it out!

28 years and counting

While at Jessica and our son in law's, You know who and I reached the milestone of 28 blissful years of marriage. We got a little crazy, we went kayaking. Jess and Uber were game. We all had a blast. First was learning to coordinate our rowing. We had to unlearn some bad habits we'd picked up oh, about, 28 years ago while using a canoe. That accomplished we went, I think, about 6 miles to the ocean and back again.
~
Look, we are totally in sync..... my paddle is backwards. Maybe that's why it was hard....
This guy understands the word relaxation.
To the ocean and beyond.......

Beautiful scenery and strange birds.

Jess and I were just talking about how strange it is to enjoy doing something for fun that is such hard work. I think that's the way most of our lives should go. Work hard at what ever you do, fun, family, friends, you appreciate it more, it makes it special.
~
Hey Babe, here's to 28 great years and hopefully at least that many more.

My pottery

Pottery painting Friday night was fun. More so when I saw the final results today. I got the idea from some expensive cups I saw and wanted, but couldn't justify. I love em. They are for those late afternoon espressos I shouldn't be drinking.....
Can't seem to stop with the bird theme. I really like birds. This bowl turned out better than I thought it could! It had been so long since I did the plate for my sister, I practiced first on a sushi plate. The bowl really turned out a lot better. Doing things that you're not comfortable with helps keep you young, right?
