Eden Rose

Randi (the mom to be) does just about everything crafty you can think of. So thinking up something to make for her that she hadn't already done for herself or didn't have plans to do was hard. And then I ran across one of these organizers at Joann's. I hadn't seen one in years (and haven't seen any since... where can you get these things?!) It was actually one of the first baby gifts I did followed by this one, and this one (I never even found these to do for my own kids!)

Seriously love me some embroidering!

Tiny felt flower hair clips (why won't Bella wear these... or stop cutting her hair... lol)

And a screen-printed onesie with one of my first graphics on it. Apparently I revisited quite a few of my first projects on this one.

Pretty wrapping never hurts...

I just love making stuff for new babies!

Olivia's Quilt

When Jessica and I started brainstorming about my niece's quilt, we went back and forth on several ideas. At some point we realized we'd both pinned this quilt and then it was decided. Apologies for the less than quality photos. I need to not wait until it's too late and then just having to make do...

We loved the way our inspiration quilt made the secondary pattern of X's. Jess was in charge of making sure everything was in the right place. I was in charge of sewing and trying not to mess that up. This did cause one issue, in that, to get the desired amount of x's without having to make even smaller HSTs, we had to go bigger. As in the biggest baby blanket ever. Good news, it's so big it will take her straight through her toddler years and then some.
My sis-in-law picked out this duvet from Pottery Barn Kids for the little Miss's room. We stepped up the colors just a notch.... It was so fun gathering this variety of fabrics, picking stuff up here and there and pulling from our stash.
The duvet was used for the backing with plenty left over for room accents. We did simple straight line quilting on point. The binding is a deep purple.
The solid fabrics are all Kona Cotton. Aurifil thread was used for both pricing and quilting. The batting is Pellon's Nature Touch that we purchased from Joann.
We had such fun making this and of course it is full of love and good wishes for this little one as she starts her life.

Who knew...

Who knew pattern sewing was not as hard as I thought it would be... I have actually ventured into it a few times recently (additional project pictures to follow soon I hope)
The pattern is the popular Hopscotch dress by Oliver and S

The blue one was worn about a hundred times before I got around to taking a picture. The green one was my second attempt and I borrowed Mums serger.
I made them in the 12-18 size and they fit Bella perfectly now (8 months) the arms are just a little long.
She is growing up so quickly that I can barely remember her small.
She finally has a second tooth coming in (as of last Sunday) and though she managed it a few times before, today is the first time that I feel she has truly grasped the forward motion crawling. It's very goofy, she kind of drags and hoists herself forward. She of course screams at you the whole time because she knows you could just give her what she wants with out all the exercise and that makes her so angry.  Hoping my chunky monkey will thin out just enough that her shorts stop cutting of circulation to her legs (you think I kid)
Don't get me wrong though I love every bit of this chunky girl and her fat cheeks.

Serger love

Mom finally bought a serger a while back- and I just recently started using it- AWESOMENESS people! If you love to sew you must get one!

So mom made this little zippered pouch for me. Love the deconstructed Anthro vibe and the crystal pull.

So I decided to copy it! I still hadn't made anything for Bella's diapers so I ended up whipping together a fun matching bag. I made up the pattern as I went but it's based off of one Jennifer made  for Micah which I still love and am using! I made it larger  - it takes about 7 small diapers. (we can be out all day sometimes so I usually carry that many around to be safe!).  I did the same exposed seams. It is lined and to far it's holding up very well!

Can't wait to show you my next serger project!

Dresses for Bella

My Granddaughter is a cutie. She is three and a half months old. She loves talking and will wait for you to look at her, so she has your undivided attention, for a chat. Sometimes when she's very sleepy she will "sing" herself to sleep. It makes me laugh.
It's a good thing I started early on dresses for her because time flies and it's just hard to find moments for everything. Does that ever happen to you?
This of course is the hopscotch shirt pattern by Oliver + S. I was able to get all three of the smallest sizes from a yard of fabric. We got this Michael Miller knit from fabric.com. Thank goodness Jess is happy about having the same dress/top for Bella. They are just that cute an comfy for her.
I finished these with my serger and used a double needle for the hems.
Here she is modelling the smallest size. We were having a serious chat, as you can see.
Below is the smallest of the first trio I made. I made a bit long and she has already gotten so much taller!
I seriously could watch her for hours.

Ice Cream Dress

Oh dear, I'd forgotten how fun it is to sew little dresses. This Nicey Jane fabric used to be the bumper pads Jessica made for Micah's crib. I love reusing stuff, don't you? Jess picked the Oliver & S Ice Cream Dress. The fabric was a little less than eighteen inches across so I could only make a 6 - 12 month size. The solid is from Joann's.
After seeing a version with a rounded collar, Jess decided that was the look she wanted. The button adds a bit of interest. Both the front and the closure button were some I had in my stash. They don't match but they coordinate with the fabric in a fun way.

I added the bias trim to try and distract from the not so well matched strip I had to add to make it long enough....
I kinda love it.
