Another favorite blanket- animal style

So I finally found the gifts I talked about in this post. (hope you weren't holding your breath!)

Parker's Aunt wanted a blanket made for  him so she asked me to create it. I recommended one of my kids all time favorites - a whole cloth, minky backed blanket. The kids love them, they are super soft and can take a bajillion washings.

Now you know I love pieced quilts BUT if you are wanting something custom made for you and are on a budget which in no way means cheap.. don't get me wrong... minky is involved! I think these are fantastic. And seriously the kids all time favorite to snuggle up with... not that you are allowed to touch any of their other blankets... Bella will cut you!

I quilted a zigzag to follow the fabrics zigzags  and it turned out perfectly.
If you didn't notice I appliquéd the same animals I made for the invite onto the quilt.

The left over fabric turned into a bag -- because we all know I can't help myself  when it comes to bags!

I will try to get my gift up on the blog soon.... I have finally taken the time to dig up the last years worth of crafting and I am trying to get it sorted to show to you- I hope you will enjoy it there is a lot of really good stuff!

Welcome spring, how about a giveaway?

Here in Northern California, it is definitely spring weather, it shouldn't be, but it is.  Things are popping out of the ground, blue tulips I cant wait to see, and the trees are getting teeny tiny leaf buds.  It's just a tease but it feels so good.  I asked my sister Corinnea, how 'bout a giveaway on the blog and she said yes! (Corinnea here - I also said I wanted to keep it for myself) So here you go, spring reminds me of purple pansies, and purple tulips, my most favorite flower, and purple iris which remind me of my Mema, and this Holden Shawlette.  Made from Malabrigo sock yarn, the color and feel of it is just so right.
Its just such a "wearable" pretty thing.  Since all of us here at Created Blissfully love all of you out there who follow, we are giving it away to one of you. If you don't follow us yet, would you like to? Either way, just leave a comment on this post about what you love about spring, and my lovely sis will use her magic winner picker generator to see who gets it! Comments will be left open until Saturday morning February 16th and announced on Monday. Please, please make sure you are not a "no reply blogger".
For any knitters out there, you MUST make this, it's the Central Park Hoodie and it is hands down my most fav thing I've made. Such a great pattern, it seriously gets worn all the time.  There is just nothing like a really cool cable sweater....
It has a hood.  Major love.  This one is made from Ella Rae Camelsoft yarn which is super warm and surprisingly soft.  There may be yarn on its way here to make another one for my sis,(Corinnea here - Acck! I can't wait!)(Jess here- AHEM, me too??) and more yarn on my desk for another one for me. My daughter wants one too. She never wants any of my knits, so I know its a keeper.
Now, to wrap up this all yarny post, is this guy, its pretty, but Oh. So. Not. Practical.  Its made from pure alpaca, the center is made of a cria alpaca yarn that I attempted to dye in a range of green, dying yarn is very fun but is also harder than expected, the purple is a pure alpaca that contrasts so well with the green.
It's a crib sized crocheted granny square, and would be so cuddly to wrap a little boo in, you just have to be willing to hand wash and dry flat, which is where the not really practical part comes in. It also reminds me of everything lovely about spring, the colors and the coolness of the air which just begs for a blanket like this.  Now, its time to go see if my tulips leaves have gotten any taller today!

Much Love,
Things to remember..... Comments open until Saturday morning February 16th. One entry per person (any duplicate entry will be removed.) We would love, love, love it if you followed us (click the join this site button on the right side bar) but this is not a requirement. Make sure we have a way to contact you! And PLEASE spread the love and let others know about our giveaway.

soft things for Isabella

I've been holding on to this fabric - All Cotton by Alexander Henry - for almost 3 years just in case I was lucky enough to have a little girl I could use it for-- so I finally turned it into a yummy blanket.
It has yummy polka dot minky on the back.
Mom made Micah a similar blanket and it continues to be one of my favourites to pull out. Looking back at that post it seems impossible Micah was every so small and quiet.... and still!
And while I was at it I made up a bunch of spit cloths- because flannel was on sale and what better way to get the need to buy something girly out of your system then a few half yards of fabric.
We have so many more things in process for this new little one- we just need to focus and get some of them completed... and I probably need to stop ordering more fabric... ahem!

The Boy and His Blanket

Just in case you're wondering, quilts and blankets are not the same thing and anyway, his mom bought the fabric and said make it. So I had to. Poor me.
Made with Urban Circus by Laurie Wisbrun, Shannon Cuddle in brown with blue dots, and kona cotton in a color I would know if I could ever get my hands on a color card. I "quilted" it with straight lines about every third row of elephants.
He loves it and I love him. Perfect.

Wow I'm a Slacker

I have a friend. She had a grandchild. He was born before my grandson. I made her grandson a gift. I never sent the gift. I am a bad friend.

I figure if I admit this and post it, I will be so ashamed that I will finally get to the post office and send it. There is no excuse for not getting it sent, other than I am being forgetful lately.  I think I need people, or at least an assistant. If this does not arrive on your doorstep by the end of the week please call and yell at me.

Oh and Joan, when you get it, you can see how far from perfect my sewing is! This blanket is wonky, but since it's meant to be drug around and loved I hope that won't matter! P.S. I'll put something in the box for you too!

Think cozy

A snuggley cuddle and flannel blanket.

My first knit anything in well over 20 or so much more so many years ago. I ran out of yarn, can't get more, I'm over it.
Just before You Know Who took these for me I was having a playful moment with Brink. Then he got crazy and messed up my hair. So I chewed him out.
Someone thought that was funny.

Something Simple

Yesterday, just before the shop closed, Jennifer and Katelyn were looking at a book we have been waiting for. There were some really cute ideas made up with yummy fabrics. None of the projects are very difficult or time consuming. This is something I love, because time is precious and I never seem to have enough but I crave making things. Ask my DB, I always have something going on.... (Oh and yes, that is my cluttered sewing table!) Sew anyway.... this was one of the simple yet cute projects and I told Jennifer I used to do that. I couldn't reist making one up this morning. They are easy and cute and if you have babies you never have enough. Hmm, I also used to make crib sheets out of flannel with little applique on them....

Mushrooms on my mind

This is just crazy. I don't even have a great affinity for mushrooms. Well, I like to eat them and I have taken photos of them. Maybe I do love mushrooms cause now that I have started, I can't stop making them. The first one is so sad compared to these. (You can trade it in Jennifer.) As you can see I have even made a pointy one, kinda reminds me of a certain hat..... They are actually keeping me sane because the Cathedral Garden quilt is driving me mad! I cannot even tell you how many hours I have spent trying to finish the green section.

I also made a blanket out of our new minky! I love it but I am afraid I won't be able to keep it. Black fabric and Miss Evie just don't mix. For a moment I thought about giving her away instead but that seems so drastic.
For now it will be on display in the shop. That's all for this weekend!
