Sweet E Cake

I know 3 times in one week and it's only wednesday!! (Don't expect this to keep up!)

Another logo I have been working on. I actually designed it back in December-January but it had been put on the back burner until this week. It is for a friend in Indiana who is starting up a little cake business from home. I LOOOVVVVEEEE the name.
Here's it with a little pop of color... I just sent this version along for fun but I think it's growing on me.
I loved getting the opportunity to play with a logo that is not crafting related. Or I guess a better way to put it is I loved getting the chance to play with a logo that was food related. Makes me want to open a bakery... or on second thought maybe just visit one... hahaha.
And on a complete side note I am hanging out on our patio right now writing this post and I just looked over to see a cardinal hoping around my wanna be garden. I am SO happy summer is finally here and though I am sure it will be a long hot 6 months at the moment I am eating up every minute of outside time I can get!

2010

So, a little while after You Know Who and I had fondue for two.....

The fireworks began. Well, people have actually been setting them off all week.... They began with a vengeance at about 2350. That led to this,

I am not sure we'll get him out of the tub this year.

I had a lovely Thursday.

I finally picked up these cute pillows (from World Market) I had been eyeing them forever and they finally went 50% off! They remind me of my stuff and since I don't do outdoor pillows I thought I needed them. The blue one says ranunculus... which is awesome... I need to hunt some of those down to plant for next year, they supposedly grow here. I love them and I love their name. I mean really who named it that?

We have had a very long two weeks and tonight we just relaxed. We ate out on the patio, which we should really do more often.
Dinner was scrumptious. Grilled Salmon and zucchini. Uber does an amazing job with fish. This one was salt and peppered and then grilled with basil and shallots.

As I was making my shopping list I was also reading Mayfly's post about blueberry ice cream and thought I had to have it so because I have a slight problem with blueberries... I can't stop eating them.
So if you clicked over to the recipe you will notice it is actually blueberry cheesecake ice cream... oops! Didn't read that but it explains so much because when I bit into it I thought hmmm... to much cream cheese not enough blueberries. It's a very good recipe if you are looking for the cheesecake side of things not so much if you were wanting a blueberry overload... But I have a new goal now and that is to find the perfect blueberry ice cream recipe! And if you think it's odd that I didn't catch onto that whole cheesecake thing when it called for cream cheese I would just like to say that some of our other recipes also call for it and do not taste quite so cheesy!

So the reason I went to World Market was to pick up some canisters because I received a get 50% off 2 or more for kitchen canisters... among other things... this morning in my email. I had been wanting to find some funky ones for my laundry area and they had exactly what I was looking for... well in addition to a little extra... There were only two of these left and they were up on a top shelf so I was pulling the second one down and thought it was rather weird that it was lidless... but no biggy I could see the lid. WELL mid getting it down I realize something is in the jar.... something being a LARGE cockroach.... a LARGE ALIVE cockroach....ummm yeah... so I didn't scream or throw it or do anything drastic (very proud of myself) But I did have to go ask the girl at the front to please come kill it... (I didn't really say what it was because there were other customers I just asked her to please come kill something...hahaha) anyway it was pretty funny because the workers passed it around I think the supervisor ended up coming over and taking care of it... which included spraying it with cleaners and who knows what else because I walked away... I wish I had gotten a picture, I am not sure why I didn't... oh wait I know because I was TOTALLY grossed out and trying to keep my cool....ANYWAY
I needed them because when we were up at my grandmothers she had a canister in her laundry that she kept all her lost socks in which is totally a great idea. I bought two one for lost socks and misc items and one for garbage ... I have never been able to figure out what to put my garbage in because I am lacking in extra space. I really think this is going to work out perfectly. Oh and if anyone wants the coupon let me know I can email it to you!
I also completed a long overdue project tonight, I filled the other frame on my shelves!

I used one of my graphics as a stencil. It wasn't what I had originally planned for this frame but Mum told me I needed to start using some of my graphics on my pillows so though this isn't quite a pillow but it is on linen and I like it.

I can't seem to get a good picture of it. It looks so much better in person. In the picture it feels like it is missing something but I am looking at it right now and it looks fine... not sure what that's about. Oh but do notice Ubers hat holder in the background... ahem... yeah it's just so funny isn't it...

Alright well I am in bed even later tonight then yesterday but as you can see a LOT was accomplished tonight so I am not feeling to terrible about that. One more day and then the weekend!

Travel log - Boeblingen Schlemmen am See

Oven-Barbecued Ribs

This is from the November issue of BHG. I am trying to purge old magazines and cook some of the recipes I find interesting. This is not traditional barbecue but it was not labor intensive, the flavors sounded good, and I love ribs, so gave it a try. They also included a salad recipe which is simple and tasty. I threw in the Brussel Sprouts thinking the bitter flavor would be good with the two sweet flavors of the ribs and salad and maybe make you know who hate them less. Unfortunately, these were more bitter than most so reinforced the afore mentioned hatred.

Oven-Barbecued Ribs
Prep: 30min Bake: 1hour 40 min Oven: 350
2 racks pork loin back (baby back)
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 Tbsp. garlic powder
1 Tbsp. ground black pepper
1 Tbsp. Chinese five-spice powder
1tsp. ground ginger
1/4 cup Dijon-style mustard
1/2 cup hoison sauce
2 Tbsp. molasses
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 Tbsp. rice vinegar
  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Cut ribs into serving-size peices. In a small bowl combine brown sugar, garlic powder, ground black pepper, Chinese five-spice powder, ginger, and salt.
  2. Brush meaty sides of ribs with mustard. Sprinkle generously with spice mixture. Place ribs, bone sides down, in a large shallow roasting pan. Bake, covered, in for 1 hour. Carefully drain off fat.
  3. In a small bowl stir together hoisin sauce, molasses, soysauce, and rice vinegar. Spoon mixture evenly over ribs. Bake, uncovered, for 40 to 60 minutes more or until rivs are tender. Serve with Asian Slaw. Makes 6 servings.
Asian Slaw
In a large bowl combine 4 cups finely shredded bok choy (I used Napa cabbage variety) and 1 cup shredded carrot. Drizzle with a misture of 1/4cup sasoned rice vinegar, 1 Tbsp. cooking oil, and 1-2 teaspoons sugar. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Stuttgart Weindorf

Stuttgart has the best fests and the Weindorf is no exception. You know who and I were downtown last week and saw the building process begin. It is so cool that they will build tiny timbered houses for two weeks every year. I checked, they have been doing this since 1974. So here are pictures of before and after..... Some of the food we ate View from the Rathaus
I have no idea what he is trying to do but the lady standing next to me was cracking up. I think she was hoping he'd fall in....

Bandanas in the tree. I don't know why.
These booths are extravagent.

Anyway, it was a nice day. If you havn't been, you should try it. Eat yourself silly, that's what we did!

Goats, they're just cool

I had the opportunity to spend time with a very nice young woman, her kids and her kids...... Becky, among raising children, chickens and goats, also designs quilts. I don't have any pictures of her quilts but I will bring home the patterns. So I started quilt market early, going straight to a source.....
I am now in Portland, ready for the market. First, there must be food, I have my priorities..... I won't bore you with the dinner picture but it was good! I am putting up the dessert picture. We dove into it before I could pull out the camera. If you had been there, you'd know why.

Just a fun day

Spent another fun day with Sherie! We did our tour of the Bullseye glass company. Unfortunately they don't allow pictures in the plant, but it was awesome. They make their own equipment, which I am sure is the reason behind the no photo policy. There was one group of guys making large sheets of glass who have choreographed their movements to an art form. The glass available is overwhelming and it is nice to know we have a good bit of the best offered.

Since we were in the area, my sister thought I should go to the Elephant Delicatessen. Oh my word!! The food was fantastic and the staff was great.

We ended the day with a fashion show for Slippers. She liked it, really she did.......
