Dabbling in Watercolor - Micah Edition

After painting the picture of Bella I wanted to find one of Micah to paint. I figured I would look back through the archives and find on at the ocean but ended up not having to when I snapped this picture while we were in Tahoe for my cousins wedding.

This time I remembered to include the original photo so you can see where I started (The post with Bella's watercolor has been updated to include the original photo as well)

Water is hard. I love the way it turned out and am completely happy with it. But I think it's pretty obvious I could use some professional instruction!

Valentines

We don't really do Valentines day around here. Usually a fun dessert is all but I love the decorating part, it goes up when I take down Christmas  This year I added the architectural LOVE letters. I decided to save the roughly $20 and make them completely from supplies around the house. It was actually super easy and fun. I did splurge on sparkly Modge Podge (totally worth it!)

(please pretend I dusted and straightened... or don't lol)
oh and I found some Red and Pink lights for the Tee Pee- the kids love having lights in there!
Last night I made another Hopscotch top for Isabella out of an old GAP tshirt that I had laying around. It took an hour from first cut to finish. I reused the hems to save time. This shirt is so much fun to make and is just so cute!
I wanted to get a cute picture of the kids together but instead I got a bunch of them being goofy. But there my kids so I don't know why I would expect anything else. I love these two crazy faces!
Bella is growing up so fast.
Who does she think she is?!?

Super MAC

Uber and my Dad had Micah wearing one of Bella's bibs as a cape a few weeks back. So I thought I would make Micah his very own cape... since a used bib seems a slightly gross way to be a super hero.

I had pinned a super hero cape at some point that used t-shirts (I don't have time to find it and link to it at the moment) I didn't check the link out other then seeing it- so I am not really sure if there was a tutorial or not. I just made my own up and it was simple enough. I decided to go reversible.

Which actually made it super simple because you have no seems to hide.
The M and MAC I just printed up in publisher and then used steamaseam to hold it in place while I zigzagged it on.
Super simple, quick and hopefully will one day be fun for him. At the moment wearing it seems to be close to torturous... not sure what the deal is... I think he may be feeling more villain then hero- ha!

Happy Halloween!

I enjoyed Micah's birthday mobile so much that I ended up switching it up for a Halloween one. It only took a whole month to get a picture of it!

We dressed the kids up on Saturday to get pictures of them. If one child is hard to photograph two is nearly impossible! Ever since seeing this video on youtube I knew I wanted to dress them up as bear cubs.

Micah's outfit was re-purposed from a sleep sack Mum made him after he was born, it was WAY too large (obviously) I redid it into a pants suit and added the hood with ears. I also made Isabella's pants and both of their shoes. Lets just say this is a good example of why I don't sew clothing.
Also I think Micah grew since I made his outfit last month. But I am still happy with them since they are just costumes! Isabella was a little irritated about the whole thing. Micah on the other hand seemed to really enjoy tromping around in it. And doing anything but sit still.

Hope you all have a good holiday!

Micah's 2nd Birthday

Why is time flying by so fast? Micah turned 2 at the beginning of this month.
We went back and forth on big party or just family and finally decided  just family sounded the best. I left the theme to the last moment. I really wanted it to be something that Micah would love- and it finally hit me that it had to be all about the sky- he loves everything that fly's!

This guy will be in the shop soon. It made such a fun addition to the decorations.

Other then that I kept it simple since Halloween decorations were waiting to go up after the party

Delicious fudge cake courtesy of his Great Grandparents.

I grew up with small family birthdays so I thoroughly enjoyed the evening of hanging out with just family. And yes that is Beau- he just happened to be available : )

Micah hated being sung to...again...  But enjoyed eating his cake!

Isabella rocking one of Micah's gifts.

P.S. new photos are up on both of the kids album pages.... including more photos of the party
Also Isabella is almost 5 months old - WHAT?!

T shirt fun

So behind on so many things! Sorry about that life is busy! I will try to get back and get up to date here soon but I really can't promise anything. I'm trying to spend more time with kids...  I don't really feel like I am accomplishing this since I have so many other things going on.... but you're not here to listen to that -you're here for crafting!

I've been playing with the Silhouette a LOT. It is addictive.
Among many other things I made matching shirts for the boys-- Uber was nice enough to let me dress them alike for a few hours and get a picture. I LOVE THEM! (the boys and the shirts... but mainly the boys)

I also made them matching Thunder Cats shirts

The one on the left was an extra shirt... for no one special at the moment.

This graphic is copied from an American Eagle shirt we bought Uber a few+ years ago. It wore out and I held on to it to duplicate... and since I didn't have to hand cut the design I realized Micah needed one too.

Micah's Sea Turtle Quilt Applique now a shirt graphic

And an enlarge Elephant shirt.

And here is Bella in one I made a while back (as in before I ever knew there would be a girl to wear it) - It's so fun seeing them in things with my graphics on it!

Alright I am off to bed. Hope you all are well I will try to catch up on my blog reading soon!

Berry Stripe Quilt and some crack....

Shot cotton is a new favorite for me. Especially mixed with linen.
I really have to resist the urge to keep every quilt... Moo!

This boy LOVES the water... any water.... even a cup of water
every post should have some crack... seriously have to remember to put sunscreen there!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Micah's Tee Pee (the Pinterest Challenge Summer Edition)

I finally got my act together to participate in the Summer Pinterest Challege hosted by Young House Love, Bower Power, Centsational Girl, and Ten June (love them!). Since I am completely addicted to Pinterest it's awesome that someone has taken the initiative to get everyone to actually do something with their pins.

For my project inspiration, I originally pinned a teepee featured on Happiness is Eva, who I started following after she used my garland for her daughters first birthday party. Hers was purchased from Angel at my Table which is an Australian company. I loved how beautiful and finished it looked. So after much additional perusing of available children's Tee Pee's I knew this was the one that I wanted to reproduce.

My version--
I am thrilled with the way it turned out. I looked all over trying to see every random picture of these Tee Pee's I could find to figure out how they put them together. I finally lucked out when I found (duh!) the assembly instructions at their site. It filled in all of the details I wasn't sure about.
It's large enough to grow with him as he gets older. (Uber and I can sit in there with him comfortably now...at the same time...) It's roughly 8 feet tall (to the top of the poles), 68" tall inside and 60" across at its largest point.
I used a set of herringbone sheets (found at target), 5 bamboo poles, 5 dowels, 5 cord stops, clear vinyl plumbing tubing, cotton clothes line rope, velcro, scrap leather and leather cord to create my own version of the tee pee. It ended up running around $70 in supplies and took about a week of nap times to finish.
close up details.  Seriously I think the photo below is my favorite.
It was completely worth it to add such a fun (and I think stylish) play space to our living room for Micah. It sits in a corner that was wasted before and lucky him it has an awesome view of the TV. The adults in the house (and most who visit) may or may not spend time in there hanging out and wishing it were theirs.
the lucky little boy!

Thanks for visiting!

P.S. I tried so hard to make a tutorial for you guys on this one but I got to the sewing part and was all DARN IT... they can figure this out for themselves!!! But if there is a lot of interest I can do a post on the set up and at least point you in the direction of how to go about it on your own. I really have to say the project turned out exceptionally well ... and believe me I tried very hard to mess it up!
