Seeing Stars

 More practicing.
I saw a quilt I wanted to make for Isabella... if you follow me on instagram I already have finished that quilt... pictures soon... : ) Anyway, I wasn't sure that I wanted to start such a tedious endeavor so I decided to make a small practice one with Shot cotton I had left over from another project.
I LOVE it, it's so happy!
It might go up in the shop...
 decisions, decisions...

Greenpoint Cardigan - The Cashmere Version

For my second go at The Greenpoint Cardigan, I decided to make something for the girl. It's a size 12 months, so a bit too big, but she wanted to model it anyway.... no bribes necessary.... Anyways...
Once upon a time, a lady had a beautiful cashmere sweater.
 Then she shrunk it.

w

As I was looking for cardigan appropriate fabrics, I remembered I'd saved this almost too small for anything sweater. There was just enough to get the main body of the cardigan without the neck edge. Buttons would be impossible unless I adding a different fabric and I didn't want to, so I settled for the tie. IF I'd been thinking more clearly the tie could have gone all the way around the neck edge. As it is, this will stretch, but it will be fun while it lasts. I used the sleeve and bottom hems at the sleeve and bottom hems.
Sometimes I like to keep it simple.

This girl loves to stand up.
She loves talking to anyone who will look her in the eye.
She loves to laugh.
And drool? Well, it happens a lot!
I love her face.

Necessaries

Small items required for a purpose.
Miss Bella Boo needed diaper covers. I really did not mean for them to have a patriotic color theme. I was just pulling solids to try out the pattern to see if it worked for me. It is pretty perfect. If you don't like seeing a diaper, but love your girl in dresses, I can recommend this free pattern from Dana Made It.
I added a bit of cotton twill at the back so no guessing is needed when trying to change a wiggly baby. These are so easy to put together, there really is no excuse for me not making a few more. I want to try some in knit too.....

Girl Stuff

There are a lot of dresses in the queue for our Isabella.
A LOT.
This fabric decided to be another Simplicity 4243. I made the first one in a 3-6 month size and she is wearing it now. She is quickly growing out of it. She's our little big girl.
The fabric is Weekend Lollies in Peach by Erin McMorris.
The trim is a jumbo rick-rack from Joann, in raspberry.
I decided to go with a button closure instead of a zipper and I made my own bias tape for the arm openings.
By the time she wears this, she should be running around on her own. Guess I should make something smaller next time....

Dresses for Bella

My Granddaughter is a cutie. She is three and a half months old. She loves talking and will wait for you to look at her, so she has your undivided attention, for a chat. Sometimes when she's very sleepy she will "sing" herself to sleep. It makes me laugh.
It's a good thing I started early on dresses for her because time flies and it's just hard to find moments for everything. Does that ever happen to you?
This of course is the hopscotch shirt pattern by Oliver + S. I was able to get all three of the smallest sizes from a yard of fabric. We got this Michael Miller knit from fabric.com. Thank goodness Jess is happy about having the same dress/top for Bella. They are just that cute an comfy for her.
I finished these with my serger and used a double needle for the hems.
Here she is modelling the smallest size. We were having a serious chat, as you can see.
Below is the smallest of the first trio I made. I made a bit long and she has already gotten so much taller!
I seriously could watch her for hours.

Berry Stripe Quilt and some crack....

Shot cotton is a new favorite for me. Especially mixed with linen.
I really have to resist the urge to keep every quilt... Moo!

This boy LOVES the water... any water.... even a cup of water
every post should have some crack... seriously have to remember to put sunscreen there!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Birthday Party Dress

I hope you're not tired of little girl's dresses, because I am not tired of making them yet! Have I mentioned lately that I love the Oliver + S patterns?? Hm, maybe once or twice I think.
I have been hoarding some of my Anna Maria Horner Voile hoping to find the perfect thing to make with it. I think it works well with this pattern. It's light but crisp enough for the pleats. I used Little Honey in Meadow and Pastry Line in Marine
I found a small vintage button in my stash that seemed to be meant for the front.

More vintage-y goodness on the back.
I hope our little miss likes this one!

Tutu Two

Jessica decided that Isabella will need a brown tutu. I tried scaling this one down while also adding more layers.
I'm not sure it worked the way I wanted it to. I don't have a baby this size to try it on!
I'll try again......

Micah love to sit in his grampa's chair and watch cartoons.
He loves to fast forward to his favourite scenes.

Tutu Update

This is my first cousin once removed. I love family relationships don't you? Her Grandmother is my aunt who feels more like a sister. Anyway..... I sent her the first tutu I made and according to her Grandmother it makes her feel like a princess.
I made a sweet girl feel like a princess, how fun is that?

soft things for Isabella

I've been holding on to this fabric - All Cotton by Alexander Henry - for almost 3 years just in case I was lucky enough to have a little girl I could use it for-- so I finally turned it into a yummy blanket.
It has yummy polka dot minky on the back.
Mom made Micah a similar blanket and it continues to be one of my favourites to pull out. Looking back at that post it seems impossible Micah was every so small and quiet.... and still!
And while I was at it I made up a bunch of spit cloths- because flannel was on sale and what better way to get the need to buy something girly out of your system then a few half yards of fabric.
We have so many more things in process for this new little one- we just need to focus and get some of them completed... and I probably need to stop ordering more fabric... ahem!
