Happy Mothers Day...

Better late than never!
This was actually finished before mothers day ....barely... BUT it wasn't fired in time...
We had a girls night out a few weeks ago and we went to a paint your own pottery place so I finally painted a piece just for my Mum. I did it in the Portuguese Pottery style that Williams Sonoma carries (though it is apparently not available online anymore I have seen it in the stores recently) ... will I ever get over this style? Probably not and since I will never be able to afford it (or want a piece of pottery that expensive...) I am perfectly happy painting my own! In fact I am more happy painting my own! Now I just hope she REALLY wanted some for herself!

Super simple inside

I made up the peacock character because I couldn't find any more animals to copy and had one more spot to fill.... I think it looks pretty good though I will do it slightly different if I to it again. Other than that I stuck pretty close to the examples I could find. Just slight variations of the tree and bunny.

Hopefully she likes it... but if not it looks very nice on top of my fridge!!

My pottery

Pottery painting Friday night was fun. More so when I saw the final results today. I got the idea from some expensive cups I saw and wanted, but couldn't justify. I love em. They are for those late afternoon espressos I shouldn't be drinking.....
Can't seem to stop with the bird theme. I really like birds. This bowl turned out better than I thought it could! It had been so long since I did the plate for my sister, I practiced first on a sushi plate. The bowl really turned out a lot better. Doing things that you're not comfortable with helps keep you young, right?

a bit of pottery

When I was visiting my mom last time we did one of Kelly's pottery classes at the store. It was A LOT of fun we brought in pictures of painting styles we liked and I love the Portuguese Pottery (you see it at williams-sonoma) it is (way) out of my price range so I figured why not try my own. I would explain the process to you but I dont want to butcher it Kelly might be nice enough to comment at tell you the actual names of the glaze and style and all that good stuff but basically you cover your bisque pottery with a few layers of clear glaze and then you can paint on top of it with a special glaze that works like water color. I love it!

When I got home I decided to give it another go at a place down the street (a total disappointment after being spoiled at the Patch Multi-Crafts) They only had basic glazes and puff paint available so this is what I ended up with (it's about a 14 inch platter) I love it too!

Ah and this is a great way to use up your day off... when there are other important things that could be getting done.

Definitely loving this! (now having to resist the urge to go buy more... I thought I had more... I NEED more!!!

For Sherie

It may take me awhile to get this mailed (DO NOT insert snide remarks here my loving family) so I thought I would blog it. This will show too that I haven't been completely idle. Between working, eating and sleeping, I managed to be a bit creative. Be kind ya'll, I never claimed to be artistic. Oh, and since Jenny B. says things always look bigger online...... the plate is 9 3/4..... So anyway Sis, love you! I will try hard to get it out soon, whether you want it or not!

I warned you!

I did! I admitted right up front that I was going to be terrible at this...... It's not that I haven't been creative, I have. I just haven't written about it. My mom arrived two weeks ago and we are still catching up on the everyday type stuff. This is harder to do since I am working. Good news is, she likes to come to work with me. She loves the people I work with and whenever I give her the chance she tries a new project. Pottery painting has been big this time. We took Kelly's class on Majolica style painting, lots of fun! We also did the ladies night out. What a hoot that was. She is still wondering what to do with a small ceramic bustier and shoe..... Today she tried out lamp working with Katelyn. She made two beads. I was impressed! They were good. My first was a bit lumpy..... Katelyn is a great teacher, very patient with good information. I finished a hat for Emily (one of my favorite small friends) you can she it here on her mom's blog. I have made more tiny flowers, Kelly and I sold some, you can see them on this site. I have made some dresses too. I used some of my favorite fabrics at the shop. I will try to post pictures one day...... really.... I mean it.
